Obituary: Seth J. Abbott, Jr., longtime Plano resident, went to be with the Lord on 5, 2012. He was born near Hanston, Kansas on 8/18/22, the 1st of 8 children to Seth Abbott, Sr. and Jessie Edna Abbott. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Patricia Abbott, the love of his life. He would tell anyone that would listen that she was the best thing that ever happened to him. He was preceded in death by a son, Philip. He is survived by son, Tim and wife Shelley, daughters Kelli Abbott, Marilyn Hunter and husband Harlan, and Jody Guest and husband Rick and by a sister, Julia Chambers. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, Joel, Jeff, Chris, Melissa, Heather, John David, Trevor, and Cameron and 8 great-grandchildren, Donovan, Will, Henry, Noah, Marshall, Ruth, Jayden, and Mason. the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Seth entered the 14th Armored Division in early 1942. only six weeks, with an excellent score in Officer Candidates School, he was promoted to sergeant. He then transferred to the Army Specialized Training Program in 1942. He united with the 99th Infantry Division in Belgium in , 1945. He was wounded in combat near Cologne, Germany where he was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was discharged in , 1945. In , 1946 he entered the Engineering School at Kansas State University and later transferred to SMU where he graduated with honors and earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering. Seth began his professional career as a production engineer with Atlantic Richfield in 1950. The American Institute of Petroleum Engineers awarded him the Environmental Conservation Distinguished Service Award in 1985. retiring, he worked with a conservation consulting firm, drove a school bus for PISD, and spent several years mentoring students at Mendenhall Elementary. He was an active member of Plano East Church of Christ where he taught School for many years. One of his favorite things to do was to take his children, grandchildren, and any other kids he could pick up to Braums on nights after prayer meeting. Until his health prohibited you could find him in the stands at almost every Plano Wildcat football game and then later at the PESH games. He loved to tell stories about his time in the service but most of all Seth Abbott loved the Lord and his family. He will be missed. Visitation will be held , 8, 2012 from 7-9pm at Ted Dickey . services will be held on , 9, 2012 at 10:00am in the funeral home with Ken Gardner officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park. |
